Prediabetes means you are at high risk for subsequently developing diabetes. The ADA criteria to diagnose prediabetes are:
A1C: level: A1C 5.7 to <6.5 percent.
There is a continuum of increasing risk across the entire spectrum of A1C levels less than 6.5 percent
Impaired fasting glucose (IFG) – FPG between 5.6 to 6.9 mmol/L (100 and 125 mg/dL).
Impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) – Two-hour plasma glucose value during a 75 g OGTT between 7.8 to 11.0 mmol/L (140 and 199 mg/dL).
Early detection of prediabetes and effective interventions that prevent progression to diabetes are likely to be important since the duration of hyperglycemia is a strong predictor of adverse outcomes.
